MATILIJA AVENUE BLOCK PARTY

Battalion 14, along with members from Fire Station 102, was invited to participate in the 19th Annual Matilija Avenue Block Party on July 1.
There was a great turnout for this event on a very hot day. The sense of community was everywhere as neighbors and friends got together to enjoy the festive atmosphere.
Among those in attendance were Councilmember Wendy Greuel along with Staffmember Pat Davenport. Event organizers did a great job setting up activities including the parade, refreshments, games and the annual "Bake Off".
The members of 102s were very pleased to be included in the event. One of the day's highlights was the demonstration of a cooling hose stream (in a spray pattern) that the kids enjoyed in the 100 degree heat.
The lads from 102s, along with Battalion 14 Staff Assistant Cristian Granucci, really had fun judging the Baking Contest. You can forget the mental image of wine tasting as these guys really made sure that they ate plenty of the baked goods in order to determine the eventual winner.
Congratulations to all of the neighbors who showed us that the sense of community is alive and well here in Battalion 14.
We look forward to next year's party!
VISITOR FROM CANADA 7/3/06

On Monday, July 3, 2006, the members of Battalion 14 were very proud to host a member of the Canadian Fire Service on his visit to the United States.
Robert Cormier, a member of the Moncton Fire Department in New Brunswick, became aware of Battalion 14 through this web site and expressed an interest to visit through e-mail.

Robert (shown at left with Staff Assistant Chris Granucci) was able to go on several additional responses throughout the day and enjoyed the gourmet meals served in "Cafe Sixties".

Robert completed his first day in the Battalion by visiting Universal Studios Citywalk.
It was a pleasure hosting Robert in Battalion 14 and we hope he enjoyed his stay!
