Comments:
A couple of questions regarding the strip mall fire. With the size of the response, why wouldn't this have been mentioned in the LAFD blog? Also, what type of unit is "H 1", why were two Battalion Chiefs assigned, and why was it Batt 12 and Batt 10? Why wasn't Batt 16 assigned?

Lot more than a couple of questions?

Thanks,

Mark,

Unfortunately, not every big incident gets into the LAFD blog. Brian H is very busy and puts in so much good info that this incident may have hit the "cutting room floor" so to speak.

H1 is the designator for an LAFD Helicopter. In this case it was used for aerial observation and to check for flying brands.

Additional Battalion Chiefs were requested based on need and to meet the requirement for "Span of Control".

Battalion 10 was designated as the Rescue Group Supervisor and was in charge of RIC ops. Battalion 12 was utilized as the Safety Officer and for Recon.

We do not have a "Battalion 16".

Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks for following our site.

Mark,

I stand corrected. The link to the article on the LAFD blog site is:

Chief Williams,

Thanks for the answers. I rember Brian Ballton's post for the strip mall, but I didn't put 2 and 2 together since the incident was in July. Thanks for clearing that up. I also made a mistake in my question. Instead of Battalion 16, I meant to ask why Battalion 14 wasn't assigned, but from looking at Brian B's post, there 1 was Div Chief, 3 Batt. Chiefs and 1 EMS Chief, so I actually misread when you started the paragraph with "Battalion 14 recently responde..."

I appreciate your time.
