AUTO VS. FIRE STATION 60
On Saturday, January 6, 2006, the troops at Fire Station 60 (Battalion 14 Headquarters) had just finished dinner when the entire Engine House rumbled and a loud CRASH was heard. As members ran outside to see what had caused the commotion they found that a single vehicle had left the roadway and impacted the Fire Station at a high rate of speed.
The members of Engine 60, Light Force 60, and Rescue 60 immediately went to work on establishing Scene Safety, initiating a Rescue and beginning Medical Care of the critically injured driver of the vehicle.
After attending to the patient members determined that the vehicle had been traveling Northbound on Tujunga when it impacted a parked vehicle, ran up on the sidewalk and struck the support wire for a Telephone Pole, crossed the alley behind the Fire Station, ran across the front lawn of the station striking the front fence and smashed into the Fire Station on the front apron adjacent to the to the parking lot entrance.
NOTE* Normally members use this area to park Heavy Apparatus for cleaning and maintenance.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to Holy Cross Hospital by Rescue 60 in critical condition.
